Your Crew

Your Skipper

Meet Steve Potter, Beluga's most experienced angler and skipper. With more than 25 years on deck and just about that in time behind the helm, it's noSkipper Steve Potter of Beluga wonder why  Steve has represented Western Province in the Tuna Nationals as well as the Marlin Nationals as both  angler and skipper. Continuing to relentlessly find and boat excellent fish, we  were once again blown away by Steve's talents, ability and knowledge of the boat, sea, tackle and fish when he won the GOLD medal at the 2007 Marlin Nationals for landing one very hungry 632 lbs Black marlin ! ! !

With a complete and sometimes unforgiving love for the ocean and this sport,   fishing has taken Steve around the world to test his abilities in such places as Great Britain, USA, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, and both the East and West coasts of Southern Africa. Picking up knowledge and experience along the way that has proven priceless time and time again, it thrills Steve to share what he knows with you aboard Beluga. Under the guidance of a skipper of Steve's stature and credentials, we at Cape Town Fishing Charters have no doubt that YOU will join the elite group of adventurists who have not only left our boat with their personal best catches, but also with the memories, laughs and images that will highlight YOUR day with us for the rest of your lives.

Meet Joe Potter, Crewman on Beluga. Joe is a young and enthusiastic angler who has shown a genuine passion and respect for both the ocean and sports fishing. Joe is Steve’s youngest son and has been fishing with his Dad since the age of 3 years old teaching him invaluable lessons and giving him hard earned tools to become a great angler. Joe has progressed exponentially each trip and has proven himself with not only knowledge and respect for the ocean, but also landing some EXCELLENT fish socially as well as consistently in the Western Province  offshore league fished on a drastically lighter line class making these massive Yellowfin  Tuna and very energetic and powerful Longfin Tuna that much more difficult to boat. With fishing  in his blood, finding Joe the first at the boat with the  energy and spirit to add to a wonderful and exciting day at sea and last off the  boat at the end of the day is not uncommon and simply can be explained as this guy LOVES what he does and is not afraid to show it!

With a family team built on respect and passion, we aim to make your day with us the most memorable day of your life and ours. Topped off with a couple cold ones back at the dock and enough fresh fish to keep you more than satisfied, we have no doubt Cape Town Fishing Charters is the only choice for you.

With the fish now well and truly settled in, it presents a GREAT opportunity to go target big Yellowfin Tuna , for many anglers that means putting a tick in the right box.

Often Anglers fish their whole life and can only dream of doing battle with one of the strongest fighting fish in the world’s oceans , that was certainly the case for Bradley a visitor from up country who was determined one day to tick the Yellowfin Tuna box and  “Cape Town Fishing Charters “  were expected to put him on that fish !

Running out to the deep across flat calm seas is always a pleasure , but running out to sea on a mission to catch a guy a big fish when you know darn well exactly where those fish are......, that is the best feeling in the world !

Approximately 4 hours after throwing the mooring lines Bradley was the proud owner of a 42kg Yellowfin Tuna , and needless to say the happiest angler on the ocean !

Chartering a boat, man alone is not a decision to take lightly but when it happens, and it does happen from time to time make sure you do it with          “Cape Town Fishing Charters”  because aboard Beluga you know we will do whatever it takes and go wherever we must go to catch YOU the client the fish you are looking for !

The Longfin and the Yellowfin Tuna are back in the Canyon in good numbers, Yellowfin up to 85kg's have been in the box in recent trips and the Longfin have been a respectable class of fish up to 30kg’s, great fish to catch on an Ashley Read mini half round with 15kg mono and a Saragossa 14000, I am referring to the Longfin off course !

We had the pleasure of taking another of our loyal guests out recently, a guy that needs no introduction to either the Longfin or the Yellowfin Tuna out there, needless to say with one of “ Cape Town Fishing Charters “  Tiagra 50w's loaded with 80lb tournament Ande strapped into his black magic Samson made short work of this 64kg bullet, 17 minutes to be exact ! Well done Sam, always a pleasure !
