CAPE TOWN FISHING CHARTERS ARE TOP BOAT AND ANGLER AFTER DAY ONE!!!

Every year the Tuna Nationals are held in the Cape waters, where the very best anglers from around the country receive the opportunity to represent their province in a fierce and formidable competition not only against each other, but also against the mighty Yellowfin Tuna. The competition is in spirit of sports fishing and all anglers take their chances at these massive creatures on nothing more than the frightful 10kg line class. Fights lasting in excess of 3 hours are not uncommon where the battle moves from the sphere of physical endurance to extremely demanding mental strength and concentration. Landing a fish in these conditions is a feat in itself, but with 10 boats on the water, the pressure on the shoulders of the individual anglers and teams alike is exponential …

Cape Town Fishing Charters has kindly rendered the services of our skippers and vessel in the spirit of the competition and looks eagerly forward to the annual Tuna nationals hosted by Atlantic Boat Club in Hout Bay. The competition dates are from the 10th May to the 15th May 2011, whereby Cape Town Fishing Charters have closed our diaries to the public charter enquiries in order to show appreciation to our club, the spirit of competition and ultimately sports fishing in Cape Town, South Africa.

An amazing job has been done to put this event together and ABC has put on a show at Hout Bay harbour where anyone can come down and witness the catches of the various boats and teams for the day at the gantry. We will be there right up in the mix on mooring number one rightfully so! Still in the heart of the Tuna season, come down and have a chat with us, we would love to take YOU out to catch that fish of a life time imprinting a day in your life with Cape Town Fishing Charters

WELCOME BACK TO CAPE TOWN TUNA!

It has been such a long off season for Cape Town's fishermen, that seeing the   first signs of decent fish this week has been has been a true vessel of relief. The 2nd of March 2011 Cape Town Fishing Charters out in the deep looking for the mighty Tuna once again!

The day started off well with consistant strikes on the backlines, producing a decent class of Longfin Tuna each time. With small patches of the blue water we endlessly search for showing themselves every so often, we had no doubt we would produce the fish we were looking for!

Nearing the end of the day with a dozen fish in the box, we decided to sit and bait and look for the ever sought after Yellowfin Tuna. In doing so we were surrounded by a big shoal of Longfin eating furosciously at out chum baits. As far as we are concerned, the funnest way to catch thse fish are on spinners and coffee grinder reels. Needless to say, every spinner dropped went tight and before we knew it everyone was hooked into fish and bringing them over board one by one! The deck was soon full of fish flapping around making music to a fishermans ears!

A real treat to find and catch these fish of which the biggest was 20kg on the spinner, so dont miss your chance when you get one and book with us early to avoid disappointment! Cape Town Fishing Charters customizes each trip to benfit only the client, making it safe, personal and fun! Topped off with fresh fish for the braai, oven or pan there is no better way to spend a day with family, a couple mates or on your own if thats what you choose! Cape Town Fishing Charters... - Watch this space!

YELLOWFIN TUNA

Yellowfin tuna are powerful swimmers, built for endurance and speed. To help conserve energy on long-distance journeys, their bodies are almost perfectly streamlined, reducing drag around the fins. And tuna can retract those fins so water flows more smoothly over their bodies. This makes tuna super-streamlined.

"their bodies are almost perfectly streamlined"

Unlike most fish, tuna are warm-blooded and can heat their bodies up to 6° C warmer than the surrounding water. This added warmth helps a tuna’s muscles work faster and more efficiently. Tuna consume as much as 5% of their body weight daily and must continually swim with their mouths open to force water over their gills, supercharging their blood-rich muscles with oxygen.

COOL FACTS

A 85kg Yellowfin tuna can swim steadily at 37km per hour.
Light-colored, vertical bars appear on the sides of Yellowfin tuna while they’re feeding.Magnetite, a mineral found in neural pits in the tuna’s snout, may be used by the tuna to detect the earth’s magnetic field for navigation.

MARLIN CHARTER

As the time approaches once again to the much looked forward to annual Two Oceans Marlin competition in Struisbaai, on the east coast of South Africa, the boats are being geared, the tackle prepped and the crews briefed on strategies for the fishing to come.

"This experience will trump any other you think you may have had in the past"

Struisbaai is one of the richest Marlin fisheries in the world and is still relatively untouched. Over the years some MASSIVE black and striped Marlin have been landed, testament to the quality of the waters and location.

Every year we have taken part, some amazing results have been produced! This year we decided to allow one person the opportunity to join us aboard and fish along side seasoned and professional anglers in the persuit of that monster billfish.

This is a once in a life time offer, becoming a part and fishing for the team for the 4 day event in February this year. we are offering to charter you for the duration of the competition. This means fishing every available day on a state of the art fishing vessel custom rigged for exactly this purpose, accomodation, food and transport to and from Struisbaai if you are leaving from Cape Town are all included.

This experience will trump any other you think you may have had in the past. Getting hooked into a Billfish 5 times your weight is no joke, but rather the goal we set out to achieve every time we put our lures in the water. If you think this is for you, do NOT hesitate to contact us as soon as possible, before this single position on the boat disappears.

Navigate to the "Contact us" page and insert your message RE: Struisbaai Marlin competition. We will get back to you within the day.

BRADLEY TICKED THE BOX !

With the fish now well and truly settled in, it presents a GREAT opportunity to go target big Yellowfin Tuna , for many anglers that means putting a tick in the right box.

Often Anglers fish their whole life and can only dream of doing battle with one of the strongest fighting fish in the world’s oceans , that was certainly the case for Bradley a visitor from up country who was determined one day to tick the Yellowfin Tuna box and  “Cape Town Fishing Charters “  were expected to put him on that fish !

Running out to the deep across flat calm seas is always a pleasure , but running out to sea on a mission to catch a guy a big fish when you know darn well exactly where those fish are......, that is the best feeling in the world !

Approximately 4 hours after throwing the mooring lines Bradley was the proud owner of a 42kg Yellowfin Tuna , and needless to say the happiest angler on the ocean !

Chartering a boat, man alone is not a decision to take lightly but when it happens, and it does happen from time to time make sure you do it with          “Cape Town Fishing Charters”  because aboard Beluga you know we will do whatever it takes and go wherever we must go to catch YOU the client the fish you are looking for !

THE NOT SO ELUSIVE YELLOWFIN !

The Longfin and the Yellowfin Tuna are back in the Canyon in good numbers, Yellowfin up to 85kg's have been in the box in recent trips and the Longfin have been a respectable class of fish up to 30kg’s, great fish to catch on an Ashley Read mini half round with 15kg mono and a Saragossa 14000, I am referring to the Longfin off course !

We had the pleasure of taking another of our loyal guests out recently, a guy that needs no introduction to either the Longfin or the Yellowfin Tuna out there, needless to say with one of “ Cape Town Fishing Charters “  Tiagra 50w's loaded with 80lb tournament Ande strapped into his black magic Samson made short work of this 64kg bullet, 17 minutes to be exact ! Well done Sam, always a pleasure !
